Andreas joined Google Cloud in Oct 2020 as an Enterprise Cloud Architect for supporting the digital transformation of a retailing customer in Germany. After a year Andreas took the opportunity to move back to his favorite industry in the travel and transportation business helping the Lufthansa Group as a Principal Architect on their journey to Google Cloud.
Andreas considers himself to be a “Data Person” as he started his career at Teradata working with various customers to harness the power of data using data analytics and methods of AI. He then joined Cupertino-based database startup ParStream which was sold successfully to Cisco. Andreas decided to take on another startup challenge and joined zeroG.aero – A Lufthansa Systems company as Chief Data Scientist. Over five years this business grew from five people to almost 70 people helping airlines to digitally transform – until the global pandemic disrupted the whole travel industry. Andreas was the lead architect on the Lufthansa side of the Operations Decision Support Suite the Lufthansa Group co-develops with Google Research and Google Cloud.
Andreas holds a diploma and a PhD in Computer Science from Bonn University where he worked on audio signal processing and multimedia databases including efficient algorithms and data structures for protein databases. At Google Andreas co-authored a paper on how companies should create their data strategy: “Three pillars for building a modern data strategy”. Beyond the conceptual aspects of handling data effectively, Andreas likes to work on all AI/ML related topics whenever possible.
Favorite industries: Aviation, Retail, Life Sciences; I enjoy playing Tennis and field hockey, exploring the world with his family and to spend time at and on the water – preferably on the helm of a sailing boat.
